Elisa, the free media player

Well, in light of The Free Ware Junkie I am going to take a crack at making my own review for a piece of software that I've recently discovered and enjoy using. When Windows came out with it's Media Center edition I though to myself, "Oh that's kool...." then I banged my head on the wall a few times because it wasn't cool. I'm sure by now they've fixed it a lot, but first impressions go a long way.

Elisa is similar to Media Center, it catalogs all the music and movies on your PC and network and allows you to watch them in an appealing interface. The difference between Elisa and Media Center is that Elisa is free, and it seems to run better. I setup Elisa on my laptop while laying in bed, when I loaded into the main screen it automatically picked up the movies that were in a share folder on my desktop PC. So, I watched a movie and fell asleep.

As you can see, it's pretty simple and user friendly. If you'd like to try it out click on the image above.
